The 43rd Annual Conference of ISBTI, TRANSCON 2018 was organized at Novotel, Visakhapatnam, on a grand scale.

The Conference theme 'Transforming Transfusion and Cellular Therapy” was well received by Eminent speakers. Scientific sessions started with an opening on Transplant Immunology on 26th Oct and ended with Voluntary Blood Donation and Valedictory function on 28th Oct. The whole scientific session were resplendent with topics of current interest on Apheresis, Stem cell Transplants, Solid organ Transplants and their clinical linkages. Topics on TTI and clinical use of Blood and Blood Components, Thalassemia, Sickle Cell anemia & Hemophilia saw great participation from local delegates NABH accreditation, Blood Donor Motivation Jeevandhan – a very successful organ donor programme of the state presented by former Vice-Chancellor of Health University, Andhra Pradesh Dr. Ravi Raju had packed audience.

ISBTI oration was given by Dr. Surekha Devi on “Blood Banking to Transfusion Medicine – My journey”. Plenary speakers Dr. Latha Jagannathan & Dr. Sreenivasan dealt on HLA & Stem cell Donor Register which was very lively and thought provoking.

The Inaugural was a great fanfare with Dr. Hari Babu Member of Parliament as Chief guest and Dr. Nageswar Rao, Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University as Guest of Honor. Both are highly educated, regular Voluntary Blood Donors and camp organizers!

There was a significant representation by Voluntary Blood Donor Motivation team which is a pillar for ISBTI. ISBTI awards were presented by the committee in a grand manner. This was followed by a gala dinner which was a beautiful amalgam of culture and tradition with Kuchipudi dance & orchestra, in which the delegates were fully immersed.

Great importance was given for P.Gs for presenting Oral papers on all the 3 days. Quiz was introduced in a novel way. Dr. Karishma conducted it with great enthusiasm and was appreciated by all. Dr. Ankit Mathur of BMST was the back bone for the Scientific Programme's success.

Many awards & prizes were distributed




Overall TRANSCON 2018 at Visakhapatnam was a spectacular success with 550 participants, unforgettable 2 ½ days of Scientific delibrations, Posters, Papers, Quiz, Awards and Gala dinner.

I wish every State will take up the challenge and conduct Transcon as it certainly gives immense satisfaction and new level of confidence to the organizers.
